The Visitors – Special Event with BLOCK HEATER
Join us on Thursday 9 February, 7-9pm for a Special Evening Launch Event with Calgary Folk Festival’s BLOCK HEATER, powered by ATB, 9-12 February. Registration is not required. A cash bar will be available.
Esker Foundation presents Ragnar Kjartansson’s The Visitors until 30 April. Through elements of theatre, music, and visual art, Ragnar Kjartansson creates performances to explore pathos, humour, and collective emotion. Ragnar’s large sound and video installation, The Visitors, depicts eight musicians performing the same melody of a song. Kjartansson’s musician friends Kristín Anna and Gyða Valtýsdóttir, (of the historic Icelandic band Múm), Kjartan Sveinsson (one time Sigur Rós keyboard player) and composer and frequent collaborator Davíð Þór Jónsson – sing and play a different instrument, isolated yet in unison. Through its unique arrangement of music in space, The Visitors creates a layered portrait of the house and its musical inhabitants, offering a reflection on the strength and persistence of affective ties; friendship, love, and loss; and the melancholy and romanticism of life.
