Crash Course: Discussions in Contemporary Art featuring Sans façon
Continuing this new informal lecture series presented monthly over the course of our current exhibition, guest speakers present on different aspects of contemporary art and practice.
‘Public art is dead, Long live public art’
Join Sans façon on a journey from a silent fairground in Germany to the icefields of Greenland, from a wedding in Wyoming to our own sewers in Calgary, from a burning museum to the scents of people’s memories.
An evening in three parts, looking at contemporary art practice in the public realm through all the senses.
Sans façon is an art practice who work internationally on projects ranging from temporary installations in public space, large scale permanent artwork, to collaborating on major infrastructure projects or developing and implementing city-wide strategies involving artists in discourse with a city. The majority of their work tempts interaction with the surroundings and is developed in close collaboration with communities, corporations and individuals including city councils, scholars, architects, engineers and designers. Established in 2001 in Glasgow, Scotland, the practice moved to Calgary in 2011 to be lead artists for the innovative public art project Watershed+, part of the City of Calgary Public Art Program, integrating artists within the work of the City’s Utilities & Environment Protection department.
