Critical Art Writing

This workshop will plot the recent history of contemporary art criticism, both in Canada and abroad, and cite some of the practitioners who are raising the stakes in the field, whether through issuing new modes, voices, and approaches to art writing, or through their initiation of new art-writing podiums. Together we will consider criticism’s role in an age of increasingly dialectic and democratizing publishing platforms. Through reading and discussion, Goodden will bring insight to a complicated moment in contemporary art, its criticism and reception, and offer tools for inaugurating or advancing a career in contemporary art criticism.
