Cy Gavin works across painting as well as sculpture, performance, and video. His Bermudan heritage offers a lens through which to approach and think about the African diaspora, his paternal lineage with the Caribbean island, and its complicated relationship with the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. He lives and works in upstate New York and conducts his field research often during walks at night. This practice of seeing at night has brought about a richly saturated colour palette that can be appreciated in his work, Untitled, which puts forth the beauty and force of nature.
