Landon Mackenzie: Meta-Texts
Dr. Shepherd Steiner
Dr. Steiner looks at meta-textual questions surrounding the work of Mackenzie. Meta-textuality refers to the discourses or frames of understanding that have become a part of painting since the decline of modernism and the onset of minimalism, feminism, and especially conceptual art. The lecture traces the expanding notions of a support that Mackenzie’s painting has sought out since the 1960s with an emphasis on technics and a Canadian context. Steiner is an art critic and historian, as well as an instructor the University of British Columbia and Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
