PORTALS aims to create an immersive and interactive live music gallery that encourages the audience and musical participants to explore, and be inspired by, the exhibitions Margaux Williamson’s Interiors and Ragnar Kjartansson’s The Visitors.

The event will begin with the hour-long video and sound installation The Visitors – followed by another unique opportunity – to collaborate with some of Calgary’s finest musicians. This evolving experience aims to transport visitors through different live musical vignettes, depending on where they are situated, in the gallery, at any given point in time.

Although the music will be more curated than a typical One Big JAM(OBJ)experience, regulars of OBJ know to expect that the event will be filled with experimental improvisation and will take on the unexpected influence of everyone in attendance.

One Big JAM is a Calgary-based organization that is best known for curating “radically inclusive,” fully-improvised live music concerts. Over the past ten years, they have consistently created high-quality events that welcome and challenge musicians, dancers and poets from a wide variety of Calgary’s cultural communities. They have earned a reputation of attracting many of Calgary’s most talented artists.

ONE BIG Jam is pleased to acknowledge support from Calgary Arts Development and The City of Calgary.
